About Monterey Heights

One of San Francisco's most desirable residential neighborhoods

Our story

A neighborhood, not just an address

Monterey Heights is one of San Francisco's most desirable residential neighborhoods, tucked into the city's southwest corner. Known for its tree-lined streets, quiet blocks, and close-knit community, the neighborhood offers stunning views of San Francisco and the Pacific Ocean.

Residents enjoy easy access to Mount Davidson Park β€” hiking trails, panoramic views of the city, and a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of urban life β€” along with the shops, restaurants, and cafes of nearby West Portal Avenue.

What makes Monterey Heights special is the people. Since 1920, the Monterey Heights Homes Association (MHHA) β€” a volunteer-run organization of roughly 400 households β€” has been dedicated to the safety, beautification, and community spirit of the neighborhood, keeping the calendar full year-round: community dinners, kitchen tours, block parties, tastings, the Easter egg hunt, holiday caroling, and the Annual Meeting & Block Party each fall.

Our mission: to promote the general welfare of the residents of Monterey Heights; to urge improvements and the beautification of the tract; to guard against the encroachment of anything that would mar the beauty or lower the high standard of the neighborhood; and to foster a spirit of neighborliness.

Welcome to Monterey Heights! I'm proud to be part of this vibrant community. Looking forward to seeing everyone at our community events and staying connected. Let's make Monterey Heights the best place to live, together.

β€” Marie-Cecile, MHHA President

The MHHA board meets on the second Monday of every month, and residents are always welcome. Around 70% of households are on our email list β€” if you're not yet, reach out via the Contact page so you never miss an event.
